 The PZL SW-4 is a single turbine, light multipurpose helicopter designed to carry up to 5 persons including pilot(s) under day and night VFR. The helicopter has a conventional rotor system and is powered by single Rolls-Royce 250 C20-R/2(SP) engine (336kW, 450shp, 457 Metric hp). Helicopter is designed for compliance with FAR-27 (through amendment 27- 33) and JAR-27 regulations.

1. The helicopter is certified according to JAR-27 regulations by Polish Civil Aviation Office "ULC".
2. Russian type certificate has been also granted by "MAK" Interstate Aviation Committee.
3. PZL SW-4 helicopter is certified by EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency).

The helicopter has a fully articulated three blade main rotor and two blades tail rotor. All blades are of glass-fibre epoxy.

The structural components of the airframe are constructed of aluminium alloys and fibreglass-epoxy. The cabin is made from carbon and glass fibres in epoxy matrix and ultra light foam fillers. The central fuselage is of a stressed box construction made from honeycomb sandwich panels. Therefore it was possible to provide enough stiffness for the fuel tank cell and to attach main gearbox mounting.

The aft fuselage is of a semi-monocoque construction. It houses a large baggage compartment of 0,85 m3 volume and a radio bay.

The transmission is located directly forward of the powerplant. Two planetary gear stages provide a speed reduction of 13,75. Design of the main gearbox provides 20 min. operation after loss of oil.
